From the Chair... and finally!

18 May 2023 by Anver Anderson

And finally…. Dear Springers and Offspringers all,

This will be my last ‘from the Chair’ report, as I will be standing down as Chair and Trustee at the forthcoming AGM (see my note earlier). Chrissy reported that another 3 Trustee places will be up for grabs then too!

So, what did we talk about this week? Well… In no particular order… a main item on the agenda was next month’s The Little Mermaid. Soooo much hard work has gone into the rehearsal, planning, stage/set building, music, marketing, promotion day etc…. but…. and this is a huge BUT… the seats are not selling quickly enough for us – so we need ALL your help again please, to push, push, push the show. At current levels of sales, the Society stands to lose £23,500!!! We know people are leaving ticket purchasing until the last minute – but it is a bit scary – plus – we want the biggest audience to see our magnificent show!!

Also, why not tune into Chelmsford Community Radio CCR https://www.chelmsfordcommunityradio.com
where you will hear a regular advertisement for Mermaid – voiced by the familiar voices of Lexy Phillips (Ursula) and Sophia Harrop (Flotsam)… it’s hilarious!!

Another issue we discussed, just as a reminder to you all, NO PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TO BE TAKEN ANYWHERE BACKSTAGE OR IN THE CHANGING ROOMS AT OFFSPRINGERS’ SHOWS. None, nada, zip, zero… thank you!

We received a fantastically energetic presentation from Aimee Hart (choreography for Addams) and I’m delighted to tell you that we have engaged her to direct and choreograph next year’s production of Legally Blonde.

I’m equally excited to tell you that we have selected Lula Hemmings to choreograph Urinetown, along with Dan Screen as ASM and Sharon Scott as DSM.

The continued hard work of our erstwhile Reading Committee, Chaired by Rebecca Webber, means that we have some great shows on the table to bring to you over the next couple of years. Rebecca would like to thank all those who took part in her recent feedback survey and the results will be share with all those that took part, shortly.

Parking mayhem at the SPC has been in our sights for quite some time and following some recent incidents – which endangers our kids and upsets the neighbours – means that we have taken the decision to alter the end time for Offspringers to 20.05 and the start time of Springers to 20.25. This should give a much better window to get the kids away and the adult group in without the usual chaotic shuffling of cars. The new ending times for Offspringers will come into effect 24th May 2023 and the new start time for Springers will come into effect 21st June 2023.Our thanks to Sarah Spilling and other Offspringers’ parents for bringing this to our attention.

If you have any input for the AGM please ensure it gets to Chrissy before 7th June.

Thank you all for the nominations for next year’s President, you have helped the Board come to an excellent decision – see you at the AGM!

It was noted that the publicity day was very successful bringing in around £1,500 worth of ticket sales – well done to everyone who attended the day and flyered the population of Chelmsford!

Ben Miller (no,… we will not let him go… let him goooo) is working on a couple of fun activities post Mermaid, so watch this space for news of those… especially if you like karaoke.

Right that’s your lot from me… see you at the show – and the AGM
